Heheh. I’m distracted today. I’m ready for a 3 day weekend. I’m ready for the workday to be complete.
Also, SQUIRREL!
It’s Emerson’s Birthday. If he were still alive, Ralph would be 209 years old. He is my absolute favorite poet/deep thinker. His words prove to be ever so powerful, even centuries later. Which is why I’m sharing three of my favorite quotes from Mr. Emerson. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it’s the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
The only reward of virtue is virtue; the only way to have a friend is to be one. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success. – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Wow. Linkin Park shaped my mid-twenties. I had some serious angst that was only filled by playing their music at extreme levels. I’ve grown apart from them in recent years, but heard this song and I’m hooked. Give it a spin, will ya?
I went for a little drive on my lunch break down Marine Drive, next to the Columbia River. I stopped because I noticed this vast storm brewing, I couldn’t help but notice the whole scene. The Glenn Jackson Bridge is in the distance, Washington on your right, Oregon on your left.
Also, this is my 400th post.
First of all, I love the name “Studs.” Secondly, I think we all could use a little more hope and a little more optimism. So, I’m here to help.
With optimism, you look upon the sunny side of things. People say, ‘Studs, you’re an optimist.’ I never said I was an optimist. I have hope because what’s the alternative to hope? Despair? If you have despair, you might as well put your head in the oven. – Studs Terkel
I have a friend going through some pretty serious things right now. I’m not normally one who speaks to Him, though I believe every little bit helps. So, If you’re religious, feel free to say a prayer. If your spiritual, keep him in your thoughts. If you dance with the great spaghetti monster, dance a little harder today. Whichever you do or do not do, please do it a little extra for him.
Thanks.
Certain thoughts are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees. – Victor Hugo
I am a HUGE Simpsons fan. I’m also a huge fan of interesting cloud formations in photos. They’re inspiring, I don’t know why, they just are. The other day, on my way home, I saw this rush of clouds and they were moving so fast I was afraid that I wasn’t going to snap the photo in time.
It reminds me of the opening credits from The Simpsons.
I’m listening to great music today. Well, I think it’s great. I finally was able to purchase Not Your Kind of People. The new album by Garbage. Those who know me would know that I’m a HUGE Garbage fan. Their music has spoken to many parts of my life and if ever there was “Schnik” the movie, Their influence would be all over the soundtrack. Not Your Kind of People has a great song on it called Control – give it a listen.
If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music. – Gustav Mahler
